NOFLEX DIGESTOR SEWAGE TREATMENT and Odour Eliminator

Noflex Digestor has been used for several years on the commercial industrial work place to reduce sludge build up and control unwanted odours .From land based system in the far North work camps to high efficiency treatment systems aboard marine entities like Coast Guard.
Originally developed to enhance treatment system now it is available in retail packaging for private use for home septic systems and on holding tanks on recreational vehicles.
Noflex introduced into the system, being heavier than water sinks to the bottom of the tank were anaerobic (dead bacteria sludge) concentrates. Upon contact it reacts with the sludge lifting it into the main stream releasing micro bubbles of oxygen that break up waste.
This also releases the proteins out of the sludge, so that the live bacteria can feed on the dead. The oxygen works, by again feeding the live bugs turning the unit into a super friendly medium for maximum growth capability.
A by product of the reaction also protects against anti bacterial components and bleach reacting “FLASHING” off bleach in to Chlorine gas, up the vent before it has a chance to kill the feeding bacteria.
Noflex is not a bacterial treatment enzyme biocide or perfumed product but a blend of chemicals that, when introduced into your sanitary system will very quickly neutralize hydrogen sulphides, clean pipes and liquefy solids in your holding tank.
Noflex cleans the waste that coats the inside of piping as it is flushed through the system, stopping smells from leaching through pipe connections and hoses .Once inside the holding tank, the product instantly reacts ,neutralizing odours instead of masking them.
As Noflex works into the tank it breaks down the organics in the waste water, liquefying solids and greases to facilitates easy pump-outs. The spent residue from the reaction is sodium carbonate (baking soda) which helps buffer the solution for discharge to waste treatment facilities. With the use of Noflex there is no need for carbon filters on vents or big jugs of product stowed in small closets. It is safe on plastics, cast iron and copper piping.

Industrial Commercial Air injection Sewage Treatment

NOFLEX DIGESTOR is a powerful, specially developed treatment for the effective maintenance of marine sewage systems on cruise ships and large passenger carrying ferries. In black and gray water systems onboard these vessels, cleaning chemicals and overloading can result in the Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) being unable to effectively handle the original design capability of the system. The normal bacterial digestion of the shipboard waste is compromised and a build-up of anaerobic sludge in the piping system and marine sanitation device is the result. If left unchecked, this process will continue until the MSD is plugged with sludge. It can also result in unpleasant odours reaching the passenger spaces.

NOFLEX DIGESTOR neutralizes the chemicals that destroy the aerobic bacteria required for the effective and efficient operation of the MSD. NOFLEX DIGESTOR also dissolves the built-up sludge in the piping systems and the MSD. This process results in the liquefaction of the sludge and the release of oxygen into the sewage plant. The health and growth of the aerobic bacteria is stimulated resulting in a clean, healthy and odourless sewage system.

NOFLEX DIGESTOR should be used regularly to treat all branches of the sanitation system. This will result in clean piping and clean sewage tanks. Depending on the size, complexity and type of the sewage system, maintenance should be carried out on a systematic basis similar to the maintenance of engine jacket water-cooling and boiler water systems.

Regular sampling of the effluent discharge will assist in determining whether insufficient or too much NOFLEX DIGESTOR is being used. Key measurements to be monitored are Total Oil and Grease (TOG), Mineral Oil and Grease (MOG), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) and Fecal Coliform Count (FCC). A regular schedule of treatment with NOFLEX DIGESTOR will result in significant reductions in all of the preceding measurements. Your NOFLEX DIGESTOR Technical Representative will be pleased to assist you in the setting up of an effective monitoring system. Measurements should be carried out to the latest edition of “Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater” published by the American Public Health Association.

FAQ. In a new or freshly rebuilt aerobic system; Treatment should not be started for at least 4 weeks after start up human waste carries the bacteria needed to start the system but there are bacterial boosters on the market that greatly enhance start-up like Sept*******

Hydraulic loading of water in system; Is not important; there is little difference between vacuum low water flush and regular flush toilets with the use of this product.

When do I use more or less Waste loading does affect the dosage rates and volumes of treatment, more people more treatment powder needed.

NOFLEX DIGESTOR Treatment for RV Holding tanks

Over time holding tank systems can be plagued with build-up of anaerobic sludge in the piping system and tanks, with the resulting unpleasant odours and dangerous fumes, sometimes venting into passenger spaces and dock areas.
NOFLEX DIGESTOR liquefies the sludge and neutralizes odours instantly on contact with waste. This solves smell and solids build up problems, facilitating easy and complete pump out of the unit.

Suggested dosages – Black water holding tanks

In service ½ an ounce a day per person.
If there are more than one toilet, do a different one every day.
After pump out
Add one ounce into empty tank from the toilet, flush twice to introduce the power into tank.
Shut down
For more than a week add one ounce per 40 litres of effluent holding capacity.

Hint: before you leave the ship add into the toilet (on shut down) 1/2 ounce of the powder into the water in the bowel. This will keep the water clean and prevent any staining of the bowl; plus give a shot into the unit on start up.
In a severely sludged systems; use the same as above but two times a day, product works better on a routine basis rather than using large doses.
Grey water drains and tanks
Product can also be used as a drain opener. In sink or shower drain pour one cap into drain add one cup of cold water and let stand over night. Hair and waste matter will push up out of the drain this should be collected and discarded .Flush with warm water.
Sewage Spills
Sprinkle over area let sit for 5 minutes and rinse with cold water repeat if necessary.
Plastic Sewage Hose
Using this product on a regular basis, will remove sludge inside hoses and stop odour permutation into spaces. Older hose’s can be washed on the outside to remove any odours or stains. Add two ounces to a 2 litre pail of warm water mix, soak and wipe area with cloth or sponge do not wipe dry or rinse ------leave residue on hoses. Pour left over into toilet.

NOFLEX DIGESTOR Usage for Home Septic System Anaerobic (Non Aerated) Normal use
On average 30 grams, one ounce in toilet per 4 people in the home, per day introduced into the system from a different toilet or drain, for proper maintenance and upkeep of the piping and sewage treatment system.
Toilet should be flushed once first, then add the product, then the toilet flushed once or twice to get the powder down the line.
Slow barely functional systems In cases were there is partial blockage in the piping, large amounts of sludge build up in primary tank or unpleasant odours in the sewage leach area, more should be used 30 grams (one ounce) twice a day till system is clear.

FAQ

How do I know its working?
Most people will not notice small improvements in flow and odours over time so we suggest you open your first settling tank and mark the top level of the sludge and check every week, it should drop as flow increases and have only a heavy beer yeast smell.

Cleaning Product to avoid?
The product will not neutralize--- natural disinfectants such as Pine cleaners, Tea Tree oil soaps, and Orange base cleaners. Try not to introduce any bleach, oils, solvents or disinfectants into the system.

Hints
The product works better in small amounts spread out over time rather than large amounts all at once. Product can be used to neutralize odours and liquefies waste in out door toilets open holding tanks, sprinkle over waste and mist or spray a small amount of water over it to energize. It has been used sprinkled over leaching fields that have flooded because of high rains. The surface areas were sprinkled with Noflex to remove unwanted odours and then misted with water to activate. Will not harm grass, pipes, rubber or plastics.

Precautions:
please read and understand our Material Safety Data Sheet before using our product and ensure the appropriate personal safety equipment is worn.

Never mix with other chemicals or cleaners outside of the treatment system or holding tank.

Customer Comments: "Just a note to report on your excellent product "Noflex Digestor". We used it as per instructions when on holiday for a week at the beginning of Sept, and there was no smell from the holding tank. Also the bowel at the bottom had always presented a challenge in keeping it clean well using the Noflex fixed that problem too. Usually after the boat has sat for a week the head always had an odor when it was first used, now I'm pleased to report there is no odor at all. Also, our tank is emptied by gravity and there was always an odor from the vent line when this was being done, not anymore. What a wonderful product Noflex is. As of yet I haven't had a chance to go into Thunderbird Marina and tell them about your product, but it is high on my list of to do's as is telling all our boating friends of your product." -- Margaret

Chem-Free Holding Tank Bill Goes to Gov

CalARVC logoThe California bill, AB 1824, that would ban the use of many holding tank chemicals, is swiftly on its way to its final destination – the governor’s desk.

The California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (CalARVC) is urging California campgrounds to write Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger encouraging him to sign the bill into law.

AB 1824 has made its way almost unanimously through both Houses and their respective committees with only three nay votes and one abstention, CalARVC reported. The law is meant to protect campground owners and millions of campers from the assumed negative effects from products that contain bronopol, dowicil, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, paraformadelhyde and paradichlorobenzene.

Background

Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Thetford Corp., a manufacturer of holding tank chemicals for both the marine and RV markets, Dometic Corp., Elkhart, Ind., a Thetford competitor, and the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) opposed the bill – essentially urging the state of California to back up their reasons with science that proves these chemicals are fouling up septic systems.

Thetford contends that use patterns – the fact that many people often dump holding tanks in a short period of time – is a more serious root cause of septic system problems.

“We do not feel that we have been shown any science that shows that the six chemicals that are being banned are going to address the problem,” said Diane Farrell, RVIA vice president of government affairs. “It seems like a remedy and yet we have not seen the right data pointing us to the problem at hand. California is a leader in the green movement, and one of the premises of that is to get chemicals into the hands of the scientists and this seems to be avoiding that process.”

CalARVC was unswayed by Thetford and RVIA’s opposition, and Dometic’s request to pull bronopol from the bill.

“Dometic has put a letter in opposition suggesting that bronopol be pulled from the bill and that is when we had to dig deeper into the science,” explained Debbie Sipe, executive director for CalARVC.

According to Sipe, the California Department of Toxics and Substance Control has looked into this question, but is coming up with inconclusive results.

“Fundamentally all chemicals, even green chemicals, have a risk associated with them,” explained Ed McKiernan, Dometic director of development for product sanitation at Dometic’s plant in Big Prairie, Ohio. “When you ban chemicals and just say ‘this is banned,’ you don’t know what all the consequences could be. In the case of this law, one of my biggest fears is that it is going to cause more difficulty and more harm to campground septic systems than if the law didn’t happen.”

In fact, McKiernan claims banning these chemicals, which come from a list assembled 10 years ago by Katherine Farrell-Poe, PhD, of the University of Arizona, will have virtually no positive effect on the environment.

“The level of bronopol that is used in a 40-gallon tank will virtually have no impact on a septic system based on studies that have been done at sewage treatment plants,” McKiernan explained. “At the time the list was put together it was thought that bronopol was another name for formaldehyde, and it’s not. There has been a lot of research done and it is clearly a different product. Bronopol is a good chemical because it is cost-effective, does a good job of odor control at high temperatures and has very minimal environmental impact.”

McKiernan said RV owners can – and often do – use alternative products that contain ammonium compounds, calcium nitrates or enzymes/bacteriological kinds of additives.

“The difficulty with those three alternatives is there are issues with biodegradability and odor control,” he said. “Nitrates are not removed when they go to the septic tank. They go into the leach field. You are going to be adding more nitrates and causing a bigger problem for the environment.”

Some of the greener products generally don’t work at high temperatures, according to McKiernan, and in the state of California where high temperatures are the norm, he maintained, fighting bad odors could become a way of life for the RV enthusiast.

When you take away products containing bronopol, McKiernan maintained, RV owners will likely start using homemade concoctions containing things like Drano or bleach, which kill all the bacteria in a septic system. “This will have a very negative environmental effect,” he said.

“We want to do the right thing environmentally, but we want to do the right thing by giving the RV owner products that work in high temperatures,” McKiernan added.

McKiernan would like to see California do an in-depth study on bronopol to gain a clearer understanding before passing the bill as it stands.
